The book of Hebrews makes it plain that we no longer need earthly priests, or daily sacrifices (note the word sacrifice is supplied each and every time in Daniel 8. The word sacrifice IS NOT in the original writings of Daniel 8) for Christ does not die a daily sacrifice, He died once and for all, and in the holy place He was ministering in the DAILY ministrations for His people. The most divisive part of The Sanctuary we can imagine other readers having is Hunter Murray’s style of writing. He certainly carries a distinctive style, but it’s one that some may find a little eccentric when compared to other authors. Emma wakes in in a treatment centre and has no memory of how she got there. The staff are able to give her some answers and slowly she starts to remember snippets from some of the previous night. The Sanctuary is a cautionary tale, a reminder that your actions can have an impact more far-reaching than you might imagine. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day (of the Lord) shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”There's a sense of dread within this story, it's clear that The Sanctuary is not all that it claims to be. Zoey cannot help herself but try to find out more about a recent patient who left suddenly, and then people begin to die .... and this is where it all gets a little bit crazy. Mind, my main criticism stems from the Richard Osman pull quote on the cover, which calls this a "thriller." This set up a certain expectation about content and especially pacing, which is where the novel let me down. Without that quote, there would have been no expectation and no confusion. But listen, that aside, I see what Murray is trying to do, the questions he's asking his reader to consider, and I respect it.
