As I discussed earlier, some of the more expensive robotic lawn mowers use GPS and RTK to navigate. However, the LawnMaster VBRM16 benefits from a camera and two sensors located at the front of the machine which enables it to ‘see’ the lawn and move around objects or stop at the edge.

The batteries aren’t the only thing to get excited about, since the LawnMaster CLMF4841E also features iPower intelligent power control. Another nice feature on this nifty compact lawn mower is that it comes with dual starter levers on either side, which translates into much easier manoeuvrability. This is great news for those with uneven, sloped or otherwise challenging terrain in the garden. MULCHING FUNCTION: choose from two ways to dispose of grass clippings. Collect in the 42L Redi-bag (TM) for green waste disposal, or use the supplied mulch plug to finely cut the clippings and return to the lawn to act as a nutrient. Another feature that impressed me with the performance of this cordless mower was the way in which the rear roller striped the lawn. It is now 2 weeks since I cut the lawn and the stripes are still defined and looking fantastic.

As you will see in my YouTube video, I tested the LawnMaster VBRM16 on my front lawn which is around 100 square metres; the perfect size for this mower. One of the things that a lot of people ask me about robotic lawn mowers is whether they have enough power to complete the entire lawn in one go. The downside of the LawnMaster VBRM16’s unwillingness to traverse anything that isn’t grass is that it wasn’t brilliant around bare patches. I have a fairy ring in my grass that fared particularly badly over the hot summer of 2022 and hasn’t managed to recover, leaving bare patches in the lawn. When the mower approached these, it stopped and avoided them. If it was a flower bed I’d be thankful for it but it’s worth noting that the patchier your lawn, the harder it will be for the Lawnmaster VBRM16 to navigate it successfully.
