About this deal

Just wondering if you ever got to the bottom of this? I’m a complete novice when it comes to painting furniture and I just painted my first two chairs with a lovely burgundy Annie Sloan chalk paint. Only problem I have now is that I really want to maintain that chalky, dead flat look whilst still protecting the paint. Any thoughts? Is this user error, or over-hyped expectations? Looking closer, according to the spec sheet, you should apply 2 coats of satin varnish with a synthetic brush before applying the dead flat varnish. (I should have thought about that as this is the same principle when applying matt or satin Dulux Diamond glaze over a gloss basecoat.) So I didn’t go by the book and I also rolled the stuff. So it must have been me, I neglected to follow the full spec. I have bought satin wax flat Polyvine by mistake. It says its for mdf etc. Can I use it on my wallpaper?

Ensure that surfaces to be varnished are clean, dry and free from dirt, dust, grease, wax, polish and any other surface contaminants. Bare or New Wood A great stain prevention. A member, who used polyvine on her projects, had water damage in their unit. When the water subsided & the furniture was assessed, there wasn’t any damage to her pieces! Polyvine had protected the paint & the furniture too!Available finishes; gloss for a shiny finish, satin for depth and a soft sheen, dead flat for a completely shine free surface. Polyvine Decorators Varnish | Multi-Use Clear Acrylic Varnish

I only use Polyvine paints to create my Antique Gold and Antique Silver finishes, and I have tried out various other varnishes and found them all to be easy to apply with a nice finish. Most products come in Gloss, Satin or Flat option. Polyvine is what I have always used not only on Chalk paint, but also any water based paint. It is my ‘go to’ and would certainly recommend it. Personally, I would much rather use Polyvine than any waxes on hand painted furniture! No longer the wallpaper of the 70’s, these days, any classic and high-quality wallpaper should be able to withstand most home conditions. However, there are circumstances when you may want a bit more protection to your wallpaper design: for example, if your bathroom is more humid than most, or if your kids are completely immersed in playing on their Sian Zeng magnetic wallpaper. What can you do to seal and protect your wallpaper? However, Polyvine over chalk paint on your chairs, it isnt the greatest option. That is the negative answer. I may have a positive answer from a colleague shortly with his take on what is a good option.
