Whichever one they decide to do, it won’t be an easy decision, and if they do decide to move on from Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel, and Julius Randle in favor of the slow, patient build that fans have been asking for, then the No. 11 overall pick can become one of the most important in franchise history.
With so many options for the Knicks, it’s going to be a big-time decision for Leon Rose and Co, perhaps their most important since taking over the front office in New York. They’ll need to decide whether they want to move up, who they’d want to trade away if that is the case, and ultimately, which prospect they believe helps this team the most moving forward.
While not all of these players will be available at No. 11, this is a realistic big board of players the Knicks should be targeting with their selection.
We have left Chet Holmgren, Jabari Smith Jr., Paolo Banchero, Jaden Ivey, and Shaedon Sharpe off this list, as they are the consensus top five in this draft. After that, however, anyone seems to be fair game to be selected at No. 6 or to even fall anywhere down to No. 15 and beyond.
New York Knicks are heading into the 2022 NBA Draft at a crossroads. On one hand, they can trade away pick No. 11 in a package for a veteran and go back to competing in 2022-23, or they can continue to build on this solid group of young players they have right now.

10. Malaki Branham – Ohio State

Malaki Branham is a name that hasn’t been talked about as much for the Knicks at No. 11. But given their need for a three-level scorer who can get his own bucket, as well as having great athleticism, he fits the exact prototype that the team needs although he won’t be New York’s first choice.

While not as apt defensively as some other prospects, Branham has the length and disruptive abilities to turn into a great defender at the next level. But mostly what scouts for the Knicks and all 30 teams will be looking at is his incredible scoring ability, especially his ability to create his own shot.

Branham won’t be the bigger name that New York fans are expecting in this draft, but given how well Quentin Grimes turned out a year ago despite being overlooked, if the front office were to make this call, it should be trusted, as he is full of offensive potential with defensive abilities that go beyond his stats at Ohio State.

This likely isn’t going to be the Knicks’ pick at No. 11, but on the off chance that the draft plays out in a way that none expect, it wouldn’t be the worst decision for New York. Branham could shine as a sixth man in today’s NBA and would add yet another talent to this young Knicks core.

social media activity has been leading fans in different directions, it’s always good to look at potential options to replace him in this draft.

Duren is great, but in terms of the center in this draft that makes the most sense and can start right away at the NBA level, the best option for New York at No. 11 is Duke’s Mark Williams.

Williams possesses great size, length, and athleticism, and while it’s the defensive end that sees him at his best due to his incredible footwork that will help him excel in the NBA, there’s also plenty of potential for him as an offensive weapon.

Sure, the majority of his contributions will be similar to Robinson’s with the rim-running abilities, but <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/06/04/ranking-knicks-2022-nba-draft-big-board-options-no-11-pick/"https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/4701232/mark-williams" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shooting over 72% from the free-throw line suggests there is more range to be had from the Duke big man.

There are plenty of ways the Knicks can go about replacing Robinson, and given the lack of offensive production New York asks from its centers, it won’t be too hard to find what they’re looking for. But if the Knicks want a long-term, potentially great player to replace No. 23, then Williams would be a fantastic option.

5. Ochai Agbaji – Kansas

Ochai Agbaji isn’t a name that has been linked to New York that often during the mock draft season, but given his experience at the college level (a four-year starter at Kansas), as well as his improvement and overall production, he’d be a perfect wing to join the Knicks’ young core, led by Barrett.

In his <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/06/04/ranking-knicks-2022-nba-draft-big-board-options-no-11-pick/"https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/4397018/ochai-agbaji" target="_blank" rel="noopener">final year at Kansas, Agbaji averaged 19 points and 5 rebounds a game. Given that he is incredibly athletic and can score on all three levels, averaging over 40% from three in 2021-22, New York should definitely have him penciled in as the pick at No. 11 if the top four names here are off the board.

Agbaji has been criticized for lacking creativity with the ball in his hand, but if the Knicks can surround him with other shooters and ball handlers, such as Barrett and Quickley, this could help avoid these issues, as he would thrive as a 3&D, cutting to the hoop with great hops.

His defense isn’t stellar, but with great size and length, there’s no reason that Agbaji couldn’t step into the NBA and join Barrett in the starting lineup, as he has the potential to match up with some of the league’s biggest and best wings.

4. Tari Eason – LSU

Tari Eason is one of the most intriguing prospects in the entire 2022 NBA draft, and while the Knicks would likely want to target a more proven, polished prospect, Eason may be too interesting to pass up at No. 11 if their other top targets are off the board at that time.

Eason is a natural scorer who is excellent on the defensive end, and alongside Barrett, Quickley, and potentially Robinson, the former LSU stud could help create an elite defensive unit.

Eason certainly isn’t a finished product, as there are plenty of things he needs to improve on to become an effective talent at the next level, but if New York goes all-in with its young, dynamic core, Eason may fit the Knicks’ timeline perfectly.

While Eason will be overlooked by some in the draft, he is a great talent on both ends of the floor. While he’s been mocked to go as low as No. 15, if New York’s other top targets are off the board at No. 11, they could do a lot worse than the LSU star.

3. Johnny Davis – Wisconsin

While the two names left on this list are certainly bigger dreams for the Knicks and their fans, it seems that the name constantly linked to them if they remain at No. 11 is Wisconsin’s Johnny Davis, but that’s nowhere near a bad thing.

Davis has everything that New York is looking for in a first-round pick. If the front office can find a way to add him to the core of Barrett, Reddish, Grimes, Toppin, and Quickley, we could be looking at a team that is ready to rise in the Eastern Conference on the back of its young, hungry stars.

Standing at 6-5, Davis is one of the most NBA ready players in this draft, and after averaging 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists in his final season at Wisconsin, there’s no reason that he couldn’t step into a starting lineup and contribute immediately in 2022-23.

While he is ranked by most in the top 6-7 players in the draft, due to the needs of other teams, he often slides down mock drafts. While mock drafts can’t always be trusted, if the Knicks miss out on the two options ahead, then Davis would give them exactly what they want at No. 11, but that is if they choose to remain in that spot and not move up.

The 6-6, 222 pounder is still only 18-years old but has a refined game that would allow him to step into a starting role immediately in the NBA. While he struggles at times to create his own offense, that wouldn’t be a problem in a unit led by Quickley, Barrett, and Toppin, as the ball always moves with that lineup together.

He definitely needs to get more comfortable on the defensive end and needs to somewhat refine his game, but given that he is still young, works very hard, and is regarded as a future leader, as well as a great kid, this is a pick that New York would love to make. Griffin would fit in perfectly with this young, developing Knicks group.

Given New York’s needs, moving up into the 7-9 range would be a smart idea if they fall in love with him like so many Knicks fans already have, but either way, this is a name to pay close attention to on draft night.

1. Bennedict Mathurin – Arizona

Bennedict Mathurin should be at the top of every Knicks fan’s wishlist, and while the team may need to move up from No. 11 to draft the Arizona product, it would be worth it. Pairing Mathurin next to Barrett, Toppin, and Quickley would give the squad a lot to look forward to in the future, as well as plenty of potential for success in the present.

With great length, an ability to defend multiple positions, and the potential to be a sharpshooter at the NBA level, Mathurin is the perfect fit for New York’s young team. If he were to somehow fall to No. 11 if the Knicks stay put, they should spring to the podium to hand his name in.

The 6-6, 210 pounder would be the most perfect fit next to Barrett and is considered one of the most NBA-ready players in this draft. With his shooting stroke (38% from 3 in two years at Arizona) to go along with the hops, New York could have one of the most athletic, best shooting teams in the league if they were to somehow land the 19-year-old.

The most likely scenario here is that the Knicks would trade up if they want to land Mathurin, and he could be a player worth doing that for. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that New York could get him at No. 11, so the Knicks might miss out on an above-average starter for the next 10-15 years.
